Stephanie Ruiz
The power of a Tepeyac education is evidenced in the story of Stephanie Ruiz, Class of 2022. Her high school resume boasted a wide variety of activities including work as a Student Ambassador, membership in the National Honors Society and a writer for the newspaper staff. She was a four year athlete on the soccer team and could be found at almost every service opportunity that took place throughout her four years at OLT. After being nominated by our College Readiness Director, Stephanie received the prestigious and competitive Posse Foundation Scholarship upon graduating. Posse affords Stephanie full tuition as well as a support network for her four years of collegiate study.
Stephanie is now beginning her sophomore year studying Environmental Science at Connecticut College in New London, CT. This first generation college student is taking full advantage of all that campus life has to offer. She is working both at the campus costume store as well as early morning shifts at the local coffee shop. She is part of an improv group, participates in social action with her fellow classmates on behalf of the environment and is the co-president of Mecha, a genre of Japanese manga and anime that focuses on mechanical innovation.
Stephanie is an excellent example of a Tepeyac young woman, realizing her potential through her college experience. Her time at our high school equipped her with leadership skills, a heart for justice and a network of support. In reflecting on her time at Tepeyac, Stephanie says,
“Our Lady of Tepeyac helped me realize my potential and gave
me the confidence and tools to venture out and find my place at
far away Connecticut College. My high school remains right
beside me; knowing they are in my corner means the world to me
as a first generation college student. The scholarship support I
received at Tepeyac enabled me to be where I am today. I’m
eternally grateful for this gift. I am doing my best for my family,
my culture and for those who believed in me along the way.”
