Alumnae Speak to the Value of a Tepeyac Education
Reyna Saavedra, Class of 2015
Tepeyac is home to me; my parents met and got married at the Church nearly 30 years ago. Not only did my parents find love at Tepeyac, but decided to enroll my sisters and I in High School. It will always be home to me. I thought my voice never mattered in middle school, but I was wrong.
My teachers and classmates were a constant reminder that I could do anything and that I have a voice—and I should use it. I became the woman I am today because of the strong, brave, and inspirational teachers at Tepeyac. They taught me that with a community of women, we really can do anything. There is no limit to what I can achieve. I am a confident woman thanks to Tepeyac.
Even now, I have a beautiful group of women around me who are my biggest cheerleaders and best friends. I call them my sisters—my Tepeyac Sisters. With what I have learned from Tepeyac, I am excited to see my youngest sister, Faith (Class of 2025), attending Tepeyac now. Seeing how involved she is, just as I was ten years ago, fills my heart with joy, knowing she too has found her voice at Tepeyac.
Valerie Sedlacek, Class of 2009
I started at Tepeyac during the summer of 2005. I was a part of the bridge program that helped introduce me to high school. I came from a public middle school (co-ed). I transitioned to an all girls school and I had no idea what that entailed. I showed up to class and felt I could ask questions or for help if necessary. I felt a sense of belonging. Small class sizes helped me tremendously. I built rapport with not only my teachers but fellow peers. I felt welcomed and it has followed me into adulthood and made me into a confident woman.
My success was built on respect and responsibility. I adapted to a close knit community at Tepeyac and felt supported throughout my crucial years of growing up as a young woman. It was instilled me that I had the world at my fingertips and I can be who I wanted to be as long as put forth the effort.
I hope to bring positive influence to the young women at Tepeyac by attending career and coffee days, sharing my story on how I decided to become a nurse, and attending reunions.
